Excited to watch the independent films this year at the Cinemalaya Independent Film Festival & Competition once again? For it’s 10th year anniversary in a row, Cinemalaya X, will open on August 1-10, 2014 at the Cultural Center of the Philippines.

It will premiere 25 new digital films and there are three competition categories such as the New Breed Full Length Feature, Directors Showcase and Short Feature.

It will be shown also at the cinemas in Greenbelt, Makati, Alabang Town Center, TriNoma and Fairview Terraces because of the increase of followers demanding to see the films every year.

“The road to Cinemalaya X has not been smooth but definitely rewarding,” Cinemalaya Foundation president Nestor Jardin said.  “We can’t help but be proud of what our filmmakers have achieved – the outstanding films they produced, the unique subject matters and stories they revealed to us, and the awards and recognition they garnered.”

The festival’s theme: A Decade of Connecting Dimensions depicts the “flourishing network of individuals, groups and institutions with a common goal of developing and promoting Filipino independent filmmaking.”

Watch out for new things this year such as Cinemalaya Logo Animation Contest, the Cinemalaya Achievement Award, the Cinemalaya @10: In Retrospect exhibit, the Cinemalaya Forum Series

“This year’s batch of filmmakers will undoubtedly rise up to the challenge of the previous years with new stories to tell us and new lessons to be learned from their films,” Cinemalaya Foundation president Jardin said.
